Florence Coles Ballenger Scholarship Fund

The Florence Coles Ballenger Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 by a very generous bequest from Mrs. Florence Coles Ballenger a former faculty member at Woodrow Wilson Junior College, later renamed Kennedy-King College. Upon her death at 92, Mrs. Ballenger left one-third of her estate to Kennedy-King College. A 1925 alumna of Eastern Illinois State Teachers College (now Eastern Illinois University) and a graduate of Northwestern University, Mrs. Ballenger believed strongly that education holds the key to success in life. The Florence Coles Ballenger Fund provides financial assistance to deserving students based upon scholastic merit, exclusive of financial need, or based upon financial need. Scholarships are to be used to defray educational costs while enrolled at Kennedy King College, Dawson Technical Institute, or Washburne Culinary Institute.
