THE ALEXANDRIA IMANI BURGOS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In 2014, Alexandria Imani Burgos attended Wilbur Wright College where she was a freshman working to complete her studies to become a Social Worker. Alexandria was a very happy girl, and her dream was to be of service to others. She wanted to work at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center and help underprivileged children who were caught up in the criminal justice system. She wanted to help all children. Tragically, her family and our community lost an innocent 18 year old young woman due to a senseless act of gun violence when Alexandria was struck down by a stray bullet.

Her mother, Ms. Burgos, shared that, “As a mother, I still don’t believe that my daughter is gone, it is a gap that leaves a hole in my heart.” The Burgos family never thought that this kind of tragedy would happen to them. They want to turn their heartbreak into something positive to help others. To honor Alexandria’s memory, the Burgos family has established The Alexandria Imani Burgos Memorial Scholarship at Wilbur Wright College.

The Alexandria Imani Burgos Memorial Scholarship at Wilbur Wright College will benefit students whose goal is to be a social worker, those who have ambitions and dreams, and it will give them a gift that can help them academically. Alexandria was a very giving, kindhearted young woman and the establishment of this scholarship is something that she would have wanted.

*Awarded students must be enrolled at Wright College to receive payment via their student financial account. The maximum award is for $500. The scholarship is for tuition, books, fees and education related expenses, not to exceed the cost of attendance.
